Shikha Soni’s practice, rooted in an exploration and interrogation of identity and the self, examines the psychological spaces of one’s ‘home,’ family, and childhood. In examining questions that relate the location of the self, Shikha’s visuality, abundant in emotionality and relationships, uses the family album as a primary referent in her paintings. She confronts all that is ‘personal,’ intimate, and vulnerable. To look at the hidden messages and stories that photographs conceal, Shikha’s works explore the often-mysterious human condition.
