Rahul Juneja
The work uses a Sisyphean logic to propose the representational impossibility of any image it to signify an event in its entirety. The trap of the image, of being evidential and legible, is dismantled and exposed through futility of gesture of completion- the inherent premise is flawed, and the ‘original’ is not coherent. The image, by turning into a poor image does not incur a loss of information- the loss here, is relative. The poor image loses information and indexicality to an ‘original’, but points to information and peripheries which it actively constructs, which might not even exist.
Rahul Juneja’s practice relates to the experience of the contemporary image and its changing ontology in mediating and constructing our reality. For him, ‘how to slow down the image’ has been a processual anchor, and most of his works explore strategies in countering and mapping the accelerated, repetitive, and hyperconnected image network. His visuality, in tracing such ontological changes, is speculative, constructing narratives and fictive characters that stand as mediators in larger discourses – especially with large-scale epistemic and socio-political violence.
