Abhishek Narayan Verma

 

Abhishek Narayan Verma (b. 1990, Guthani, India) graduated from the College of Art, New Delhi in 2012 with a Bachelor’s Degree in painting, and obtained his Master’s Degree in printmaking from the Faculty of Fine Arts, The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, in 2015. Abhishek’s artistic practice incorporates techniques of both painting and printmaking. His artworks revolve around ideas of dysfunctionality, social conditioning and memory recall which he injects into his characters by using stark contrasts or subtleties with a pinch of absurdity. The imagery in his prints, paintings, and drawings stems from a constantly changing and demanding society, its politics and incumbent personal insecurities. He received a scholarship from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India (2014), the Jean-Claude Reynal Scholarship (France, 2019), and was a Manorama Young Printmaker Award runner-up (New Delhi, 2020).  His notable solo exhibitions include Diary of an Idler, Faculty of Fine Arts (Vadodara, 2016), Musée d'Aquitaine in Bordeaux (France, 2019), May I Have Your A-Tension, Please? at Bikaner House (New Delhi, 2023), alongside various group exhibitions. Abhishek is based in Vadodara, India.
