Harsh Nambiar (b. 1989, New Delhi, India) is a painter who lives and works in New Delhi, India. Working primarily with oil, his canvases construct a world of presentiment. In works scaling from the minor to monumental, Harsh’s vision is informed by influences from altarpieces and illuminations in the tradition of Romanesque and Gothic painting. Through his visual language, he sustains the tension between enchantment and the uncanny. In his portraits, we find beings imbued with a chimerical aura - an admixture of gaunt flesh and soft ether, emerging from or arriving at serpentine, spare landscapes. Resisting the immediacy of meaning, his paintings invite a recognition of that which may always remain partly unknowable. Harsh received a BA in Art History from Columbia University, New York in 2012. He has showcased his works at the India Art Fair (2023, 2024), and Art Mumbai (2024), and his solo exhibition, Improbable Being/Unlikely Realm was held at Anant Art Gallery (Noida, 2023).
