Tito Stanley S. J. (b. 1994, Abu Dhabi, UAE) graduated from the College of Fine Arts, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, in 2019 and received a Masters Degree in Visual Art (Painting) from the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Gujarat in 2022. Born in Abu Dhabi and moving back to Kerala, India in 2000, Tito Stanley's highly vibrant and intensely allegorical art practice anchors itself in the artist's lived experience. In his works, we see a language of realism that oscillates between the circumstance of being from another place and encountering the culture of his familial heritage. The allegorical gaze inherent in his works encompasses the experience of isolation, offering a point of uniqueness to contemporary painting in Kerala and India. His works have been part of the Student’s Biennale in Kochi (2016), the annual shows at Kerala Lalithakala Akademi (2016, 2019, 2021, 2022) and the India Art Fair (New Delhi, 2023, 2024). He has also been the recipient of the Kerala Lalithakala Akademi Exhibition Grant (2019), the Shrishti AIF Grant (2020), and the PDAF Emerging Artist Kalanand Award (2022). His selected exhibitions include I want to be an insect, Pictorum Gallery (London, 2024), Horizon Afar, Apparao Galleries, The Lodhi (New Delhi, 2022), Threadsuns, Gallery Nyva (New Delhi, 2022), Intangible World of a Stranger, Anant Art (Noida, 2022), etc. Tito Stanley is based in Vadodara, Gujarat.
